The StormRoom™  is an above-ground, indoor tornado shelter and hurricane shelter engineered to withstand EF-5 tornadoes and Category 5 hurricanes.

The StormRoom meets and exceeds FEMA and ICC-500 standards for tornado shelters and hurricane shelters.

Crush Resistance

The construction of the laminated panels and the steel connector plates, acting in conjunction with one another, creates a structure that is capable of holding up over 35 tons of debris on its roof.  That is equivalent to the weight of a loaded tractor-trailer truck sitting on the roof of the tornado shelter!

Strength at the Core

In addition to the aramid fiber, the walls and ceiling panels also contain a high-density foam core.  While the aramid fiber helps stop the penetration from wind-borne debris, the foam core absorbs the energy of the impact, dissipating it out across the entire tornado shelter,  helping to protect the occupants from the impact.

A Firm Foundation

The StormRoom is firmly anchored to your concrete slab foundation using Simpson Strong-Tie® anchoring system.  These anchors will withstand more than 3 times the amount of uplift produced by an EF-5 tornado.

For Ballistic Protection

The StormRoom can have the additional feature of ballistic panels provided and installed by Stormrooms of America, allowing it to be used when personal safety from gunfire is desired.  A door constructed of ballistic rated material made by Stormrooms of America is also an option when you are designing your StormRoom.
